HomePodCast

Monday, February 12th, 2018

In this podcast, the Tech Doctors sit down with David Woodbridge to examine Apple’s new smart speaker called the
HomePod.

It seems that everyone who hears it in person agrees that the audio is spectacular. Once again, Apple has created some incredible hardware.

At the time of this podcast, a subscription to Apple Music is the best way to fully enjoy music on the HomePod. Airplay can be used to send audio from other devices that support Airplay to the HomePod. The HomePod makes excellent use of the Siri voice interface to control both music and smart home devices. David and the Tech Doctors are interested to see what else Apple will do in future software to compliment this outstanding speaker.

Be sure to go

Three Excellent Books

Thursday, January 25th, 2018

In this podcast, the tech doctors have the pleasure of talking with Anna Dresner about her three latest books. Anna’s books are available from the
National Braille press.
The easiest way to locate them on the National Braille Press website is to do a search for “Anna Dresner.” That way, you get to see all of Anna’s books.

The first book that we discuss called “How to Learn About Almost Anything” is an excellent review of iOS apps that are educational in nature. There are apps for children and adults and there is something here for everyone. The variety is astounding.

The second book entitled “Ten Thousand Steps” is all about apps that help with fitness and wellness. VoiceOver users have lots of choices when it comes to exercise and self care.

The third book “you and Your Apple Watch” is a very thorough exploration of how to select, configure and use the Apple Watch. The tech doctors believe that this book contains everything that a VoiceOver user needs to know to get up an running with an Apple Watch.

If you are considering whether or not to purchase an Apple Watch, the tech doctors recommend combining Anna’s book with Lisa Salinger’s Apple Watch audio tutorial. This way, you get Anna’s clear and concise written explanations and Lisa’s audio demonstrations of how the watch actually sounds with VoiceOver running.. Lisa’s tutorial is available at
Mystic Access.

Thanks Anna. It was great to podcast with you again.

The Tech Doctors Examine iPhone X

Monday, November 20th, 2017

In this podcast, the Tech Doctors discuss their experiences with the new
iPhone X.
This is an all new design with an edge to edge OLED screen, no home button and Face ID in in stead of Touch ID. The phone has glass on both the front and back to support wireless charging. It is a tiny bit larger than the iPhone 8 but smaller than the plus phones. It feels fabulous in the hand.

Even though the phone feels and operates like an iPhone, no home button means that there are some new gestures and some new habits to get into when using this phone. The Tech Doctors explore all of these changes in detail.

The Tech Doctors are pleased that Apple has, once again, made this phone completely VoiceOver accessible right out of the box. Both Tech Doctors ran into some setup glitches which they describe in the podcast.

Being early adopters who love new technology, the Tech Doctors are thrilled with the new iPhone X. Apple is selling seven models of the iPhone in addition to the iPhone X. There is something there for everyone and they are all excellent phones. You just have to figure out which one is right for you.
